Doree Stein

I am a long time Evanston resident. I worked for the City of Evanston in the middle 80’s promoting engery conservation and Weatherization. I have been involved in several nonprofits. I was the conservation chair person for Chicago Audubon, I was head of the Great Lakes Committee for Chicago Sierra Club and was also involved with Sierra Club at the National Level. I have been a Girl Scout Leader in Evanston and Wisconsin. I was a Big Sister for many years. I am currently on the Board of a domestic violence/anti bullying organization The Violence Intervention Project ( VIP) and the Lakeshore Citizens Action Program.

I have worked in the public center most of my life, at the municipal, state and federal level. My education was in biology and science education. I especially enjoyed working in the State Park system in Wisconsin and for the City of Evanston.

I thoroughly enjoy helping, learning from and interacting with a wide variety of people. I have been involved with First Night as a volunteer since it’s inception. First Night reminds me of the good things about Evanston. People working together, sharing, playing, dancing, learning and having fun as a community.

  1. Dear Doree Stein,

I am a dancer with cocodaco dance project. We are a local dance company here in Evanston. We have just returned from a tour to Panama and are now gearing up for our first show back home.
We would love to share a short exert of our work at this upcoming First Night Evanston. I wish I had contacted you earlier but we were caught up in preparations for our South American debut. It might be difficult to squeeze us in this late in the game, but we are eager to share and contribute and willing to put in the effort to make it work.
We would also like to invite you to attend an open rehearsal at Foster Dance Studios as our guest. It will take place between 1:00 and 2:00 pm on the 31st, after which we look forward to seeing you at First Night Evanston!
Feel free to call me directly at 520.232.4047 or email the company at

    Happy New Year,

    Zac Bigbee
